"Peach Blossom Fan" is about the love story between Hou Fangyu, scholar at the late Ming dynasty, and Li Xiangjun, the famous Qinghuai prostitute. On the date of their engagement, Hou Fangyu wrote a poem on the fan and gave it to Li Xiangjun as a love token. Shortly after that, Hou Fangyu was framed and escaped alone. Li Xiangjun would rather to die than remarry to the royalsknocking her head against the floor, her blood dyed the poem fan presented by Hou. Several years later, when the two guys met each other again through innumerable trials and hardshipsboth of them became the monks under the advice of Taoist. By depicting their gathering and seperating, the story reflects perish history of Nanming dynasty, i.e., expressing the sence of rise and fall by clutch of love. The play was always integrated with contradiction and conflicts between advanced power and royal forces.
